2013 is winding down and I am glad to see it go, hopefully 2014 will be a great year. I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year!
Of course this would not be much of a post without a few photos, so I took the A7r out and tried it with the Canon 100-400 lens (using a Metabones adapter). This is a good combination, if you are good at manual focusing... The Metabones adapter will drive the autofocus on this lens, but with a little practice you can do it manually centuries before the device will lock will focus.
To see what this pair can do, I went with my friends Ruuben and Nicole to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge in Titusville Florida. This is normally the go to place for birds, but someone must have given most of them the holiday off... Pickings were pretty slim, and we didn't even get to see the Otters...
Anyway here are a couple of plant images to get started. Did I mention that much of the morning was overcast... This is ISO 1600... the noise is really well controlled in this camera.
I loved the curvy silhouette in this one against the blue sky.
My goal for the day was to try and get a nice photo of a Great Blue Heron, luckily one decided to put in an appearance.
The small birds had to represent as well. This one seems to be the mascot for the Wild Birds Unlimited Trail.
Wild Birds Unlimited Trail SignWith one little mascot Of course no trip to Merritt Island would be complete with a Gator photo... I have seen this one in Merritt Island for several years. I can tell because of the badly healed wound to the back leg.
Alligator Lastly, we went to see the manatees at the Manatee Overlook, but none were close enough to shore for photos, so I took one of Ruuben and Nicole instead.
If you made it this for down... Have a wonderful New Year!
